Garioch Indoor Bowling Club Members celebrate Jason Banks achieving the Finals of the World Indoor Bowls Competition 2023

On Friday 27 January, over 100 Garioch Indoor Bowling Club members celebrated their fellow member, Jason Banks, reaching the Finals of the World Indoor Bowls Competition 2023 to recognise and acknowledge his outstanding talent in winning his way to a World-level competition.

Derek Mackay, President of the Garioch Indoor Bowling Club, and Arthur Murrison, Vice-President of the Garioch Indoor Bowling Club,  presented Jason Banks with an engraved decanter, a glass trophy in recognition of reaching the World Indoor Bowls Competition, and a Certificate of Honorary Life Member of the Club.

Derek Mackay, President of Garioch Indoor Bowling Club, said: “What this young 26-year-old has done for Indoor Bowls in the UK is incredible, and every member of the Club is so proud of Jason’s achievement, and any Club would be delighted to have a World Level Player in their Club.  Getting to the Final is amazing, and we are confident that Jason will bring back a World Trophy – he is an amazing player.”

Jason Banks thanked everyone for attending and was delighted to see many club members come to the Club to celebrate.  While presenting the glass trophy, Jason said: “As a runner-up of the World Indoor Bowls Competition, I didn’t get an award; receiving this from the Club is lovely – thank you.”

Garioch Indoor Bowling Club has over 250 members of all ages, and Derek Mackay said: “I’m hoping that seeing what Jason Banks has achieved will encourage other young players to join the sport.  Jason joined us when he was at primary school, along with his sister Carla Banks, who, like her brother, plays at an international level.  The Club would be delighted to welcome young players to come and try the sport.”
